Jay Patel, DO

Dr. Patel went on to complete a 2-year orthopedic oncology fellowship at Morristown Medical Center (Ranked no.1 Hospital in NJ) under Dr. James Wittig, MD. At Morristown, Dr. Patel operated on both adult and pediatric patients with benign and malignant musculoskeletal cancers/sarcomas and metastatic cancers. He also gained experience in innovative limb sparing surgeries, extensive endoprosthetic limb reconstruction of the upper and lower extremities, and special techniques such as the use of liquid nitrogen for adjuvant therapy.

After finishing his orthopedic oncology fellowship, Dr. Patel completed a second fellowship in Adult Reconstruction/Joint Replacement Surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) (Ranked no.1 Hospital in CA and one of the top hospitals in the country for Orthopedic Surgery). While at UCLA, he pursued advanced training in primary and revision joint replacement surgery including the muscle sparing direct anterior approach for hip replacement, robot assisted joint replacement surgery, partial knee replacements, minimally invasive surgery, and outpatient joint replacement surgery. Dr. Patel also gained extensive experience in revision surgery for failed, multiplied revised hip and knee replacements, complex joint replacement surgery for deformities, and periprosthetic joint infections under the tutelage of Dr. Edward McPherson.

Dr. Patel takes an individualized approach with each patient, understanding their goals and needs. He works with each patient in developing a personalized treatment plan whether it be through nonoperative management or through surgery. Dr. Patel’s aim is to make each patient comfortable during their decision-making process in deciding the best course of treatment they need to achieve their goals.

Dr. Patel has published numerous research articles on all aspects of orthopedic surgery and has had his work presented at local and national orthopedic conferences.
